When distributing your Drop, it is of utmost importance to select a secure distribution method according to your use case. The best distribution methods help issuers ensure that only collectors that participated in the memory being commemorated will be able to mint the POAP.
In order to help issuers navigate the variety of distribution methods, the Curation Body offers guidelines that help issuers plan their distributions. Depending on the case, they recommend the following:
Live events
Distribution Methods for in-person (IRL) events:
1. Kiosk
POAP Kiosk allows issuers to set up a rotating QR code on a device, such as a tablet, that changes each time the QR code is scanned. This method requires a device with stable internet connection. You can find more about it here.
2. IYK POAP cards and devices
NFC technology allows collectors to tap a physical card or device to mint a POAP. IYK provides these types of devices and also has a platform that allows you to upload mint links for distributing a POAP with your IYK card. You can purchase IYK cards and discs here.
3. Physical QR code distribution
If you can’t use a device or won’t have internet access, you can print QR codes on physical paper or merch and distribute them at your event. After scanning one, a collector will be able to mint a unique POAP. Here’s a tutorial on how to set up this distribution method.
4. Manual mint link distribution
If you can’t access a printer, you can always share individual mint links to each attendee manually. Make sure you are only giving one to each attendee so that each attendee only receives one POAP.
5. POAP Website
If you have internet access but don’t have a screen, and there’s no way to distribute individual codes, then it is possible to print out a single QR code that, when scanned, will allow collectors to mint a POAP. This method is delicate because the QR code could be photographed and leaked. For this reason, we suggest using a minting window of four hours or less for a Website.
Distribution Methods for Online Events:
1. POAP Kiosk
POAP Kiosk allows issuers to set up a rotating QR code on a device that changes each time the QR code is scanned. This method requires a stable internet connection. For online events, you can screenshare your Kiosk and the QR codes will rotate automatically as they are scanned by collectors. You can find more about it here.
2. Revv.gg
For drops in streaming platforms, we suggest you consider using Revv, a streamer-oriented platform from a third party that allows you to distribute POAPs securely. You can find out how to set up Revv for your event here.
3. Guild.xyz
If you are using an online platform such as Discord to host your event, you can use Guild’s integrations to easily distribute POAPs. You can learn more about distributing POAPs with Guild here.
4. POAP Secret
For audio-based events in platforms that our integrations don’t cover and in which you are unable to share your screen, you can use a POAP Secret as a distribution method. Make sure you are familiar with this distribution method; follow best practices by reading these guidelines.
5. Manual distribution
If all of the above won’t work for you and you have a list of attendees you can reach out to individually, you can choose mint links as a distribution method and send each attendee an individual link using your preferred communication channel. Keep in mind that this involves hard work and manual tracking in order to ensure that each attendee receives only one mint link.
Distribution Methods for Hybrid Events:
Hybrid (both IRL and online) events may require hybrid distribution methods. For an IRL event with a separate livestream, we suggest creating two separate drops with appropriate distribution methods for each. If you are holding simultaneous conversations with both IRL and online audiences, we suggest one Drop with two different distribution methods. This will yield the best, most secure results and simplify the process. Make sure you let the Curation Body know that your event will be hybrid and that you will be using two different methods to cater to both audiences.
Past events:
For past events, the distribution method will depend on how you are able to identify collectors.
Delivery:
If you collected Ethereum addresses or ENS names from your attendees, you can create a whitelist via POAP Delivery. This will allow your attendees to mint their POAP at a dedicated page. You can find out more about how to set up a Delivery here.
Mail-merge:
The best way to distribute POAPs using email addresses is by requesting mint links and emailing each recipient a unique mint link that will allow them to mint their POAP. You can find a tutorial on how to do this here.
Manually (if able to identify collectors):
If you have a list of attendees that you can contact via different channels, you can always request mint links and distribute them manually using the communication channels you prefer. Keep in mind that this involves a lot of manual work because you’ll have to make sure that each attendee receives one, and that no one else receives the same mint link.
POAP Checkout:
Distributing POAPs using POAP Checkout allows attendees to buy their POAP by accessing a dedicated page for your drop and paying a fee. The issuer dictates the price. You can learn more about Checkout here.
Following these guidelines outlined by the POAP Curation Body enables issuers to distribute POAPs securely and efficiently.
