A step-by-step guide.
Difficulty: Easy
Number of steps: 5
Time commitment: 5 Minutes
-
Step 1: Set up your drop!
If you need help setting up a drop, please see our article on drop creation here: How Do I Set Up a POAP Drop?
Note: Be sure to request "0" mint links during drop creation!!
-
Step 2: Find your drop
Once you've created a drop petition, you will receive an email with your edit code. This code will be needed to make changes to your drop, including configuring distribution methods. Once you have your event ID and edit code, click on "Manage Websites" in the sidebar, and find your drop by name or ID. Use your edit code to authenticate.
-
Step 3: Create your website!
Type the subdirectory you want for your Website (the end of the URL after the backslash). This should be a string of lowercase, alphanumeric characters (and, optionally, dashes.) You'll want to keep this random, complex, and impossible to guess, otherwise it's possible for users (and bots) to guess the URL and claim all your POAPs before you've even announced it.
Input the timeframe during which the drop will be open in the "Start Date" and "End Date" fields, being careful about using UTC time. You'll want to keep this claim window as narrow as possible to further prevent the likelihood of the website URL being leaked. Think minutes, not hours.
Request the number of mint links equal to the approximate amount of POAPs that you expect to distribute. For added security, you can require an image-less CAPTCHA be completed to claim your POAP by ticking the "Captcha Activated" button in the bottom right-hand corner of the page. This is always recommended but is expected if your website will be open for any longer than 10 minutes.
To reiterate, to have your drop approved by the Curation Body, you must:
-
Use a website name that is impossible to guess.
-
Keep the claim period as short as possible. Minutes, not hours.
-
Only use this distribution method for IRL events.
Once you submit this request, you will receive a website creation confirmation email.
Your website request will go to the POAP Curation Body for review. When the request is approved, you will receive a confirmation email.
Done! Your website will be accessible at https://POAP.website/{your-website-name} during the timeframe you specified above and after receiving a positive review from the Curation Body.
-
Step 4: Wait for approval
After an issuer petitions the Curation Body to drop a POAP, the petition undergoes a manual review by the curators. Reviews have several possible outcomes:
- Approval (without comment): In the best case scenario, curators have no objections to the preparation or execution of a drop. The issuer receives an email that confirms the drop is approved.
Once your Event Start Date is triggered, these links can be distributed to your collectors, allowing them to mint or reserve one of your POAPs.
If a drop cannot be approved without comment, curators may reach out to the issuer (via the email provided when the drop was set up) for the following reasons:
- Request for Information: In some cases, additional information is required by curators to make a decision about the petition.
- Conditional Approval: In other cases, a drop may be approved with relatively minor changes to the drop (content or distribution). After an issuer revises their petition as requested, the drop will be approved promptly.
Drops are rejected when they are conceptually too far out of alignment with the POAP ethos, or when distribution presents too high a risk and compromise cannot be reached with issuers.
-
How to check the status of the drop petition?
If you want to check on the status of your drop petition you should do so by using the chat bubble:
- Click the chat bubble in the lower-right corner of the POAP website.
- Type “check on my petition”
- Enter your drop ID.
- Get a response!
If curation needs to contact you, they will do so via the email curation@poap.io. If customer support needs to contact you, they will do so via the email support@poap.io. Beware of scams and never reply to other email addresses.

What if I want to edit my website or I run out of mint links?
Head back to the websites panel, enter your event info, and modify the subdomain, mint window, or request mint links for additional POAPs. Keep in mind that if you already requested mint links, you will not be able to open a new request until the previous one is accepted.
Once you create a new request, you will receive another confirmation email. Once the new set of mint links is loaded into your website, you will also receive an email notification.

Troubleshooting
When I enter my website, it shows up as “Event Is No Longer Active”
This is because your event is outside of the timeframe you specified when you created it. Please go back to the websites panel, look for your event, and modify the dates.
When I enter my website, it displays an “Invalid Event URL” message
This is because you typed the URL incorrectly or your request has not been approved. Please be patient with your approval status. If it takes more than two days, reach out to us via Zendesk.
When I enter my website, it displays a “No More Claim URLs Available” message
The POAPs from your website have all been minted. Please head to the websites panel and request additional mint links. Keep in mind that these will have to be approved by the POAP Curation Body, so plan in advance.
