A step-by-step guide to setting up a POAP Secret using POAP Drops
"Create a POAP Secret" video tutorial
Prerequisites
Before setting up your POAP Secret, you need to set up a Drop. If you need help setting up a Drop, please see our Help Center article on Drop creation, How Do I Set Up a POAP Drop?
Activating the Numbers Game:
It's important to note that the POAP numbers game is off by default. However, if your drop using the secret distribution method begins to get farmed, the Curation Body will activate the game to avoid continued farming. You have the option to turn on the numbers game in POAP Drops or reach out to our support team using the chat bubble to have it turned on.
Setting up your POAP Secret
- To begin, login to POAP Drops.
- Once you’re logged in, click the Secrets option.
- Review the dropdown menu that provides best practices for POAP Secrets.
- Enter the secret word or phrase you want to use. POAP Drops will offer a randomly generated secret word or you can choose your own. If you choose your own, do not choose anything similar to the title or description of your Drop as they are easily farmed.
- Next, select the amount of POAPs you will be distributing. For drop sizing best practices, please read the Issuer Guidelines from the POAP Curation Body.
- Then select the start date and time you want your Secret to be active. Please note that this needs to be no more than 30 minutes, preferably 15 minutes or shorter.
Note: Time zones correspond with the Drop times zone itself
- Finally, select “Submit request.”
Your Secret will go through the Curation process. You can view the status of your Secret in the Distribute your POAP panel.
- When Curation has approved your request, you will receive an email and your POAP Drops dashboard will indicate your request has been approved.
Editing your Secret
- To edit your Secret, click the pencil icon in the Secrets section of POAP Drops.
- Apply any edits and select save changes.
NOTE: Extending the minting window for more than 30 after approval could result in Curation revoking your POAPs.
If you run out of mint links during your event, click on “Request more” and input the amount you need, and click “Submit request.”
Note: The amount of POAPs requested should stay within the POAP guidelines or your request will be rejected.
- You will see a successful message.
If there are any questions regarding your Secret, curators may reach out to you (via the email provided when the Drop was set up) for the following reasons:
- Request for Information: in some cases, additional information is required by curators to make a decision.
- Conditional approval: In other cases, a Secret may be approved with relatively minor changes. After an issuer makes the necessary changes, the Secret will be approved promptly.
Drops are rejected when they are too far out of alignment with the POAP ethos, or when distribution presents too high a risk of POAPs ending up in the hands of those that should not be eligible. Ultimately, the final determination of whether a Drop is approved rests with the POAP Curation Body, as the stewards of the POAP ecosystem.
Have fun and happy POAP-ing!
